If you have a dog, and live in the Iowa City/Coralville area, you should definitely visit the Johnson County Dog Park. For a $25 annual fee, you can visit this brand new 12-acre park, located in peninsula park, bordering the river between Iowa City and Coralville. It is know as the Thornberry Off-Leash Dog Park and is the perfect place to run and socialize your dog. They have four separate areas for big dogs, small dogs, agility and training, and a water area.
We went today, and also brought some friends with frisbees and tried out the “disc golf” course, right next to the dog park, You don’t have to be experience, or even very good, to enjoy this wooded course.
Later on in the day, I enjoyed walking my dog around the North Ridge Pavilion, which is a beautifully groomed park that has paved trails, a tunnel to the Coralville Mall, and the pavillion itself – which is a “green” building, utilizing environmentally sound materials and construction. (note the roof of plants). It’s a little weird having Interstate 80 roaring by, but it is a nice place to visit.
